Jacob’s Gate and City Wall
The Jacob’s Tower, serves as the northern city gate and is one of the oldest defensive structures in Röttingen. It still forms part of the well-preserved medieval city wall. Two historic high roads coming from Würzburg once passed through this striking gate tower into the town.
The city’s fortification originally included 14 towers, of which seven are still standing today—some even inhabited. The city charter, granted in 1275, paved the way for constructing this impressive defensive system, which still tells the story of Röttingen’s rich medieval past. A walk along the city wall reveals a fascinating blend of history and modern life.
Thanks to its elevated position, the tower offers a panoramic view of the entire town. In earlier times, the tower watchman used this vantage point to warn residents of fire or danger.
After extensive renovation, the Jacob’s Tower now houses a small, charming holiday apartment and is one of Röttingen’s key landmarks.
Right next to it is the "Röttinger Spielscheune", an indoor playground with slides, play areas, and climbing structures - a popular destination for children and families, especially in bad weather.
Equipped with play installations from the company eibe, kids can explore a recreated knight’s castle across four different levels.
